Catalina Foothills: Jewel in the Crown of the Tucson Valley
Nestled beneath the towering Santa Catalina mountain range sits the Catalina Foothills District, the northernmost neighborhoods of the Tucson metro area.
The area north of River Road and bounded on the east and west by Sabino Canyon and Oracle Roads is considered one of Tucson’s finest luxury lifestyle destinations. This foothills area includes several major resorts, world-class golf courses, fine dining restaurants, and Tucson’s only high-end shopping mall, La Encantada, which features retailers such as Luis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Williams Sonoma, and Apple. Boasting the metro area’s highest median property value, it’s no wonder that some of Tucson’s most expensive homes and land are found here.
Unlike the mostly flat Tucson metro area, the foothills rise to dramatic heights. Homes perched on the limits of buildable slopes are spectacularly close to the mountains. Many homes placed on hilltops and hillsides allow spectacular views of the entire city sparkling at night, including views of the active and growing University of Arizona and Downtown Entertainment Districts.
Many of these classic homes built in the Spanish Colonial Mission style were designed by world-famous Swiss-American architect, Josias Joesler. Joesler also worked on the distinctive St. Phillips in the Foothills Episcopalian Church and the Hacienda del Sol Resort, both icons of foothills elegance.
The Catalina Foothills school distrcit is considered highly desireable by families looking for top quality schools. According to audited reports, 94% of all Catalina Foothills High School graduates go on to college. The school also boasts extremely competitive arts and athletics prep programs.
While home values are premium relative to the Tucson metro area, there are a wide range of properties to choose from including condos, townhomes and single-family residences. Lining the fairways of the Westin La Paloma’s 27-holes of Jack Nicklaus signature golf are upscale condos as well as million-dollar homes.
For the homebuyer who is looking for a prestigious address to enjoy life and to benefit from excellent resale opportunities, the Catalina Foothills area north of the city can be a best bet.
